Cheats

An unusual aspect of Bubble Bobble was the inclusion of 'cheat codes' that could be entered during the attract mode. The code should be entered using the joystick and buttons during the 'Bubble Bobble' logo screen of the attract mode. When correctly entered a corresponding message is displayed at the bottom of the screen.

Cheat Code	Message	What Does It do?
LJLSLBLS	Power Up!	Player begins with running shoes / fast firing / long firing / quick moving bubbles. This ability is lost when the player loses a life.
BJBJBJRS	Original Game	Secret room and 20 level skip doors appear regardless of whether the player loses a life before their levels.
SJBLRJSR	Super	Game starts in super mode. Monsters are swapped for their super mode counterparts.

L = Left / R = Right / U = Up / D = Down / B = Bubble / J = Jump / S = 1p Start Button

Extra Lives

In addition to collecting all the extend letters, extra lives are awarded at 3 point stages. The number of points these extra live occur at varies depending on the DIP switch settings.

Standard / Special Items

With the exception of level 100, all levels will spawn one special item and one standard item. Try to memorize where they appear and never miss out on special items.

Remember that all the information on these pages refers to the original Bubble Bobble games. Due to the rewritten code on the bootleg boards all bets are off when it comes to these principles working on those. Some principles will apply, however pickup and bubble behavior may well vary.
